Significance of Amarnath Yatra :
This is the same cave which was chosen by Lord Shiva (Bhole Nath) for narrate the facts of immorality and formation of universe to Goddess Parvati. The legend goes like this :-
Once Goddess Parvati asked Shiva that why and when did he started wearing Mund Mala. On this Bhole shankar replied that every time you are born I add one more head in my beads. Parvati ji said – Why do I die and why my body is destroyed every time? And on the other side you are immortal. Lord Shiva said : - All this happen due to Amar Katha.
Goddess Parvati insisted him to reveal the secret. Firstly Shiva ji continued postponing. But later on he agreed to reveal the ultimate 'Universal Truth' to the Mata Parvati. He started searching for the lonely place where no living being could listen to the tale. He left Chandi at Pahalgam, his snake on the banks of the lake, his son Ganesha at Mahagunas and moon at Chandanwari. Apart from that he left all the five elements (Earth , Water, Air , Fire and Sky)at Panjtarni.
After leaving all these elements Bhole Shankar went to Amarnath Cave with Ma Parvati and starting narrating the whole story of immorality. But by chance one egg which was lying beneath deer Skin where he took Samadhi remained protected. The pair of pigeons which were born out of this egg heard the secret of immorality and so they also became immortal.
