EXPLORING THE POPULAR ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS


Presenting the most exotic ecological system of India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are located 1000 km offshore in the deep blue of the Bay of Bengal. Spread to the total area of 8293 sq. km, this island destination comprises of 570 islands, out of which only 38 are permanently inhabited. Most of these islands are still untouched and unspoilt. These islands forms the part of the Union Territory of India and is connected to the mainland by regular flights and ferries from Kolkata, Chennai and Vishakapatnam.

Thickly covered by the luxurious deep green tropical forests, the archipelago supports a wide variety of wildlife, including some extremely endemic species of bird, but the main attraction for the tourists centered around the fringing reefs ringing most of the islands. The real charm of the Andaman and Nicobar islands lies in their remoteness, that makes it bewitchingly beautiful and spell bonding. The spectacular series of islands are the tropical hideaway, edged with pristine white sandy beaches, the crystal clear water and incredible coral and marine life, that enhances the mystique of these islands.

Adventure Activities Andaman and Nicobar :

However, the best feature of them all is the one provided by the nature itself, the crystal clear, coral reefs, kaleidoscopic marine life and some virtually undisturbed natural sites. There are approximately 750 species of fishes existing on one reef alone. Large number of these fishes and coral are unique to the area and captivating life systems exists in ash beds and cooled lava based around the volcanic Barren land.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands provides the fascinating underwater marine life and scuba diving is the best way to explore them. The experience of weaving in and out of coral beds, coming eye to eye with fish or swimming with dolphins is unforgettable. Scuba diving is mostly done at the destinations which is blessed with superb coral, unspoiled and crystal clear water. Among all, Havelock is considered as the best diving sites, where attractions include Mac point, Aquarium, Barracuda city, Turtle Bay, Seduction Point, Lighthouse, The Wall and many more. There are many institutes run by government that organize Scuba diving in the crystalline lagoons of Andaman and Nicobar and arrange equipments necessary for scuba diving.

Snorkeling :
For the real taste of the marine life, you could try out snorkeling in its water. It is the most widely indulged in activity at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Most of the hotels supply masks and snorkels or you could also bring your own or buy them Port Blair where they are much cheaper. The best place for snorkeling in Andaman are Red Skin, Jolly Buoy and Havelock island.

Surfing and Fishing :

Andaman islands have been fishing site for centuries, so you have the opportunity to try your luck. These islands provides the sound infrastructure for surfing too. The water here is predictable and offers a safe option for surfing. You can hire the surf boards from the resorts.

Wildlife Adventures :

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands also holds enticing wildlife. There are many national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in the area including : Wandur National Park, Saddle Peak National Park, Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve and Marine National Park. Boosting of rich and diverse range of wildlife, these parks conducts exciting jungle safaris for the wildlife lovers. Some of the major attractions found in the region are sus scrofa Andamanensis, S.S.nicobaricus, Andaman wild boar, feral elephants, 26 species of rodents and 14 species of bat . The Islands also has 270 species of birds including 14 species endemic birds.
